Orientation Week Safety Measures

Western Orientation programming connects incoming students with the community, supports, and resources they need to thrive at Western. Our programs have been intentionally designed to protect the emotional, physical, and psychological safety of students.

  • Sophs undergo extensive safety training in preparation for Orientation Week and are well-versed in emergency protocols and campus resources
  • In times of emergency, turn to any Soph for support
  • Pairs of Sophs will happily walk students to and from events
  • Care Hubs are located in high-traffic areas across campus
  • Each Care Hub has staff/faculty, counselling, and Soph support, and includes snacks, water, charging stations, and personal hygiene and sexual wellness supplies
  • Located across from the Health Sciences fields
  • Staffed by senior leaders and Special Constables who will act quickly and effectively to mitigate emergency situations
  • Patrol campus throughout the entirety of Orientation Week
  • Can be reached at any time at 519-661-3300 or by calling 911 from any campus phone
  • Note: calling 911 from a cell phone will connect you with London Police, who can dispatch Special Constables as needed
  • Western Foot Patrol is a volunteer driven service that provides safe walks on the Western, Brescia, Huron, and King’s college campuses
  • Can be reached Monday – Friday from 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. at 519-661-3650
  • The Blue Campus Emergency Phones provide direct two-way communications to the Western Special Constables
  • There are 29 emergency Phones located strategically throughout campus
  • Western employs additional contract security who are positioned strategically at events and on campus throughout Orientation Week
  • Event access is exclusive to registered students, Sophs, and designated staff
  • Road closures during high-traffic times protect pedestrian safety
